Good news for Revit 2014 users!

The export plug-in from Revit 2014 to Artlantis 4.1 is now available for downloading!

Create your model in Revit, export and edit it in Artlantis. Return to Revit, make changes to the geometry, export a new Artlantis file and recover your previous work done in Artlantis.  The Artlantis export plug-in offers a direct transfer from Revit into Artlantis, without the need for intermediate file formats. During the export, special entities are automatically exploded. The Artlantis .atl file format is cross platform; it can be read on both Macintosh and Windows.

Let’s see in detail what Artlantis can recover from your Revit model:

• The geometry
• All cameras for parallel views
• All cameras for perspective views
• The shading color and transparency of materials with their names
• The geographical position of the sun active for the parallel view that is used for the export.

10 Free HDRi Spherical Skies Maps

This comes by way of blogger Ronen Beckerman. 10 half-sized resolution spherical environmental maps of the original commercial pack, VizPeople HDRI v1, are available for free download and non-commercial use. These are full 360˚ HDRI skydomes that integrate flawlessly into Artlantis 4.1 and can be used to light the scene, one of the key new features in the v 4.1 update. Try them out and see how they work!

To download the files, you'll need to scroll to the "Share to Download the FREE HDRI maps" portion of the page, about 1/3 down the page. From there, either like on Facebook, tweet on Twitter, or share via Google+, and a "Get the Files!" link will immediately appear afterward. After downloading, install them by unzipping and dragging the folder into your programs folder: Artlantis/Media/Images.

To apply the HDRI backgrounds into the Artlantis scene, go to the Perspectives Inspector and either double-click the Background Environment box and load the desired .HDR file, or drag-and-drop the HDRI from the Media Catalog into either the Background Environment box or the background of the 3D preview window. There may be a brief pause while the new HDRI loads into the scene. Finally, to use the HDRI as a light source in the scene, click on the HDRI button and check the "Use HDR Image Lighting" checkbox in the resulting dialogue. If you want the scene to be lit only by the HDRI background, deactivate the current Heliodon, but if you shadows cast from the sun, leave it on and be sure your Heliodon's sun position matches that of the sun in the HDRI.

Artlantis 4.1 and Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

The recent launch of Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion has brought with it a flurry of excitement and activity in the tech world, along with a lot of anxiety and questions. Many of our users have turned to us recently with the following question: "Is Mountain Lion compatible with Artlantis?"

Yes. Artlantis 4.1 IS compatible with Mountain Lion, Apple's latest Mac OS X 10.8 operating system. No special issues were found during the performed tests so far.

Mac OS X 10.8 introduces a new security option called Gatekeeper. It prevents the installation of malicious software on a Mac. By changing its security settings in the Preferences | Security & Privacy dialog box, you can control and allow the installation of applications not certified for OS X Mountain Lion.

On the other hand, Artlantis 3 was developed and tested with the earlier Mac OS versions only. We do not recommend running Artlantis 3 on Mountain Lion.
