Abvent releases iVisit 3D for ArchiCAD

Based on the success of its earlier launch of iVisit 3D for Artlantis Studio, Abvent has announced the release of iVisit 3D for ArchiCAD Public Beta. Available in English and French, this extension installed in ArchiCAD allows users to insert panoramic cameras into ArchiCAD projects, link them together, and generate iVisit 3D panoramas viewable on a website and on mobile devices. The players that can read these interactive panoramas are available in Flash, Android and iOS, and are free to download and royalty free

Create panoramas and nodes
iVisit 3D for ArchiCAD is a simple palette added to ArchiCAD, accessible from the ArchiCAD menu: Design > Design Extras > iVisit 3D> Show Palette. These tools allow users to create, delete and link the nodes, graphically, in the ArchiCAD project and, finally, to generate an iVisit 3D Panorama. Each node is a panoramic camera, which calculates the six necessary images for a cubic panorama giving a 360° view. The different nodes are then linked together for smooth navigation inside the project.

iVisit 3D panorama calculation
As when using ArchiCAD's rendering tool, setup the rendering engine that will be used with iVisit 3D. When it's done, launch the panorama calculation with one click. ArchiCAD calculates all the images necessary for the selected panorama and calculates a plan view of the project at the same time that will be used to navigate in the project.

On a website or on mobile devices
The result is an HTML folder, which includes a webpage, the Flash player and a folder including all the images. Upload the contents to the server to view it online. To view the panorama on a mobile device, use the free iVisit 3D Builder to create a PNO file, the file format used by both Android and iOS players. Transfer the PNO file to your mobile device using iTunes, Dropbox or Box.com accounts. The iVisit 3D player is available in a free download from the Apple and Google websites.

Abvent launches iVisit 3D for Autodesk 360 Rendering

Based on the success of its earlier launch of iVisit 3D for Artlantis Studio, Abvent has announced the public beta release of iVisit 3D for Autodesk 360 Rendering. iVisit 3D converts Revit panoramas rendered with Autodesk 360 Rendering into full, 3D presentations. iVisit 3D's real-time preview completes the panoramas with building level plans and easily produces interactive, multi-node panoramas for viewing on websites and iOS or Android mobile devices.

Create panoramas and nodes
Users connect to their Autodesk 360 account and launch the rendering calculation in the cloud. The different camera viewpoints are calculated as Panorama images. Users create large, vertical images with six different views of a project. Panorama calculations are launched on Autodesk 360 Rendering; when it's done, they are simply downloaded to a computer from Autodesk 360 Rendering Gallery. iVisit 3D works on both Mac and PC. Users simply import their panoramas and, if necessary, the plan views of the project. The panoramas are linked together and positioned on the plan views. The links created in this step will facilitate the navigation between nodes in the final iVisit 3D panorama.

On a website or on mobile devices
Once the panoramas are linked together and the navigation has been tested, users simply calculate the final iVisit 3D Panoramas in both HTML and PNO formats. HTML allows users to upload their panorama to a website, while the PNO format allows users to view their panorama on an iOS or Androïd mobile device. The PNO file can be transferred to a tablet or smartphone through a variety of ways using Dropbox, box.com and iTunes.

Abvent's 3D rendering technology opens Palace doors to millions

Google's World Wonders Project allows visitors to explore many ancient and modern World Heritage sites thanks to Street View, 3D modeling and other Google technologies. As of June 14, visitors can now explore the Palace of Versailles, the gardens, the King and Queen's State Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors in Street View. Modeled in SketchUp Pro and rendered in Abvent's Artlantis and iVisit 3D, the 3D models of Versailles on Google Earth offer nearly 200 hectares of views.

To mark the opening of the Palace history gallery, the Palace of Versailles and the Cultural Institute chose Google's SketchUp Pro and Abvent's Artlantis to create a trip back in time using alternative presentations of the collections, physical models and 3D reconstructions.

"We are pleased and proud to participate in such a monumental project," said Xavier Soule, CEO of Abvent. "The Versailles 3D Projects have opened the Palace doors to millions of people in ways that only 3D rendering technology could have made possible," he added.

Thanks to SketchUp Pro and Artlantis, visitors to the site can now learn about the Palace of Versailles in a fun and educational way. For example, the Versailles 3D Project videos transport visitors to the Palace 'From Louis XIII to the French Revolution', 'After the French Revolution', and 'From gardens to Trianon palaces'.

Visitors will also appreciate the interactive aspect of the site using Abvent's iVisit 3D Panoramas. These 360
° panoramas display the Palace and gardens at different stages of development from 1624 to 2012.

Coming soon: 3D scale models for mobiles
Versailles and Google will soon make it possible for visitors to the Palace to immerse themselves in its history using their mobile phones and tablets. Developed in partnership with Abvent, this application will be available through the Google Play Store and the iTunes store. In addition, tablets will be provided to tour guides who wish to illustrate their group tours.

Visitors will be able to view the Palace in the period of their choice by facing the Royal Courtyard, the Chapel or the gardens with their mobile phone or tablet. The phone/tablet opens a window on the past by superimposing on the Palace of today the construction from the reign of Louis XIV.

Tips for sharing iVisit 3D panoramas

Everything you need for viewing panoramas is automatically created by Artlantis 4. The .html file, the Flash player and the assets are all part of the final panorama folder, which can be shared in the following ways:
  1. Zip the panorama folder and send it through e-mail, Skype, or any file sharing service: This is the simplest way to share it with other people. After unzipping the folder, a double-click on the .html file is enough to start the navigation.
  2. Upload the panorama folder to www.artlantis.com and create your own Artlantis Book! The Artlantis Book is the public page of any member of the Artlantis website. This page automatically gathers and displays all uploaded renderings, videos and panoramas of the site member, even if they weren't admitted into one of the Artlantis galleries. The individual public profile can be found in the My profile area of each member. Completed with a short biography and other information, this page acts like a portfolio of one's achievements with Artlantis. Visit the Artlantis Book of one our key users here!
  3. Add the panorama to any website: Upload the panorama folder to the FTP server storing the website and link it to the other pages. If the name of the panorama is "ivisit" for example, the link will look like this: websiteaddress/ivisit/ivisit.html Check out a panorama shared through a private website here!
  4. To share an iVisit 3D panorama on iOS devices without Flash, users should transform the folder into a format iPhone and iPad can read: The video tutorial showing how to do it can be seen here!

Have fun with iVisit 3D, the presentation tool developed especially for architects and designers!

Creating iVisit 3D panoramas in Flash format

Here at Abvent, one of the nicest things about our job is the overwhelmingly positive feedback we get from Artlantis users around the world. Some of our users so often go above and beyond a simple 'Hey, I love Artlantis!' when letting us know what they think about this amazing software.

Take, for example, 'CemTech', one of our Facebook Page fans. This user, based in Malaysia, took it upon himself to create a Facebook page explaining to other users how to create an iVisit 3D panorama in Flash format. By doing so, he helps hundreds, if not thousands of other users take the first steps in creating an iVisit 3D panorama from an Artlantis 4 file. There are many, many users like CemTech, who create their own visual aids to help others become better acquainted with Artlantis.

Please share your tutorials with us so that we can, in turn, share them with the wider audience of Artlantis users around the world. The easiest way to do this is to join our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Artlantis

We look forward to hearing from YOU soon!
