Artlantis 5 sneak peek: Preview controllers

We are so close to the launch of Artlantis 5!  Based on what we've seen thus far, it's hard to believe it can get any better.  But look at what's behind the letter 'O' in R E V O L U T I O N ... OH my goodness:

Handling shaders or simple textures in the preview or in the 2D window is easy.  A preview controller allows you to move, resize, and rotate shaders and textures. A simple keyboard shortcut is all it takes to snap a shader or texture to the geometry automatically.

Just like shaders and textures, objects are handled with the same ease in the preview or in the 2D view. Rotate, move, resize or duplicate … everything is optimized! The objects can also be snapped onto edges.

Artlantis 5 sneak peek: Natural shaders

Take a look at what's behind the 'U' on the Artlantis 5 R E V O L U T I O N teaser site -- it's nothing short of Unbelievable!  U won't believe it!  Natural shaders!  These shaders are generated from two different textures.  Now you can create realistic environments without repetition.

In most 3D rendering software, creating a decent-looking textured ground surface can be a big challenge. It can be difficult to locate or create a suitable texture map large enough to not show obvious repeats, while at the same time detailed enough to provide a convincing representation of ground materials without adding a huge performance hit. Artlantis 5's new Natural Shaders offer a set of highly configurable earth, grass, and water shaders that organically combine two quality textures into a highly configurable, randomized, non-repeating ground material. This results in a dramatically improved, more natural-looking ground surface without adding any significant overhead to the rendering calculations.

Artlantis 5 sneak peek: Tiling Shader

Here's another quick look at what Artlantis 5 has in store for you!  We've revealed what's behind the letter 'L' in R E V O L U T I O N:  Tiling Shader.  Tiling Shaders are made of relatively small images with no repetition effect.  By clicking on the dice in the Inspector, you can re-organize the tiles in a random way, guaranteeing that you'll have no repeats.

Save up to 75% on artlantismembers.com subscriptions

Artlantis Members is a web store offering thousands of high-quality Artlantis objects and shaders for sale or for free with a subscription membership. When artlantismembers.com went online 3 years ago, they started out with only 500 objects. At that time, the cost of a subscription was the same as it is today: $80 for a 6-month subscription and $160 for a 12-month subscription, which is a very good deal for access to a collection that size. Today, the collection has grown to over 4,800 objects and will soon surpass 5,000 objects, which at today's prices is an incredible value! To keep up with that growth and the increasing demands on their servers, they have decided to increase their membership subscription prices on July 15, 2013.

You may be aware that subscribers are able to download up to 15 items per day for free from their Artlantis media section. If you are a subscriber, this gives you access to all of that content, but helps manage the bandwidth usage on the site. What you may not be aware of are some of the great things going on behind the scenes. The Artlantis Members team have been hard at work creating localized versions of their store for different markets, including Japan, Europe, and the U.S. This is a massive undertaking and requires ongoing maintenance, but the end result is a better shopping experience for customers in those regional markets. They also continue to recruit new talented developers to the team, which means that you will see more new products added at an even faster pace.

Here is a breakdown of today's prices and the new pricing that will take effect on July 15, 2013:

6-month subscription:
Currently $80, will adjust to $140 (77¢ per day)
12-month subscription:
Currently $160, will adjust to $250 (68¢ per day)

So for less than the cost of a pack of gum, you can have access to 15 beautifully crafted and carefully optimized objects and shaders for Artlantis each and every day. That's less than 5¢ per object! We wanted to make sure to mention that while this offer is open to new customers, we are also able to extend the subscriptions of existing members, as well, at today's lower prices. We hope you'll take this opportunity to add or renew an artlantismembers.com subscription today.

The 'Ground Floor' Opportunity from Objects Online

As the new year is ushered in, discussions inevitably shift toward new beginnings. Have you ever been offered the chance at a new beginning with a "ground floor" opportunity? Maybe someone approached you to become a part of something that holds the possibility for great things to come, opportunities for advancement, and huge potential rewards? Often, those dreamy promises are dangling at the end of a stick that is tantalizingly close, yet frustratingly out of reach. We're offering a "ground floor" opportunity of a different sort...one with immediate benefits and no strings attached! We're talking, of course, about the "Ground Floor" Opportunity Sale featuring two essential shaders volumes from the Artlantis Media Collection: Dosch Design's Ground Pro and Floor Pro.

The Ground Pro volume features 126 detailed shaders, 30 billboards and 35 textures of ground styles and materials, such as street surfaces, grass, dirt, and industrial surfaces, which can be applied to surfaces in your Artlantis scene with a flick of the wrist...just drag-and-drop. These high resolution textures will greatly enhance your architectural and landscape renderings. Floor Pro contains 80 detailed floor shaders for professional visualization of large floor areas including wood, parquet, laminate, marble and granite floors, natural stone, cobblestone, weathered and aged floor materials, and brick (can also be used on vertical surfaces, such as large brick wall areas).

Start the new year off right by adding one or both of these workhorse shader volumes to your Artlantis media collection. This may not be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will make you fabulously wealthy, but it is definitely one sale that you won't want to miss!

Offer expires February 14, 2013.

All's Well That's Maxwell

The standout feature in Artlantis 4.1 is undoubtedly the optional Maxwell Render engine. Maxwell Render is legendary for its physically accurate rendering engine, generating hyper-realistic images that rival photographs. With the addition of this engine in Artlantis, you will have access to both the fastest rendering engine and the most accurate rendering engine on the market today...truly the best of both worlds. We'll discuss some of the logistical issues with the new Maxwell Render engine, then delve into some of the important benefits, to give you an indication of where the Maxwell Render engine might best fit into your workflow.

The Maxwell Render engine is automatically installed with Artlantis 4.1 and runs in a watermarked demo mode for 30 days. To use it to generate a rendering, simply select "Maxwell Render..." under the Inspector menu. Naturally, to achieve the higher levels of quality possible with the Maxwell Render engine, there is a significant rendering time increase when compared to the Artlantis engine (could be 5, 10, or even 20 times longer, depending on how long you let it run), so it's important to do some testing to get a feel for what to expect so that you can plan your projects accordingly. Because it is an add-on product licensed from Next Limit Technologies, the purchase of a separate serial number is required. At this time, there are no upgrade or side-grade discounts on this product for existing Maxwell Render owners.

Even if you already own the stand-alone Maxwell Render product, there are some compelling reasons why the Maxwell Render engine for Artlantis is a good investment. First, because Artlantis offers a faster rendering engine, it makes sense to start your rendering project in Artlantis to be able quickly produce preliminary renderings. Should the need arise to create higher quality renderings using the Maxwell Render engine, you'll already have most of your project set up done...just a few tweaks (i.e. applying the dedicated Maxwell Shaders to reflective and refractive surfaces, such as metals and glass) and you're ready to go. Furthermore, the Artlantis user interface is simpler to use and easier to master, so there is no need to get bogged down in the complex interface of the stand-alone Maxwell Render software in order to get the benefits of its rendering engine. Finally, the Maxwell Render engine costs $250 less than Maxwell Render stand-alone, making it an incredible value for both Artlantis users and existing Maxwell Render users alike.

Try the new Maxwell Render engine out for yourself and see what it can do for your renderings.

Meet Mathew Jones, Rendering Artist

Artlantis users may be interested in reading this interview with Mathew Jones, a rendering artist and 30 year veteran of the construction industry.

"Building high-end residences, my clients often asked for multiple material samples and mock-ups. In 2001, I discovered Artlantis and found an opportunity to create virtual mock-ups rapidly and streamline the approval process. The advantage of Artlantis’ speed and ease of use cannot be understated in this effort. Traditionally lots of material gathering and multiple mock-ups are followed by several design meetings on site. With Artlantis, the process changed to lots of digital photos and e-mails followed by one or two mock-ups and usually just one on-site meeting."

After 30 years of managing and designing in the field, Mathew hopes to now turn his knowledge and experience to the creation of unique and versatile media for Artlantis. With his new venture, Toolbox Textures, Mathew hopes to capitalize on his ability to meet the needs and wishes of his clients.

In Europe, visit ArtlantisObjects for more information about Mathew's flagship product, Tile Setter Pro. In the US, please visit ObjectsOnline.
