Interoperability with ArchiCAD

ArchiCAD exports the model in the Artlantis file format through its dedicated plug-ins. You can transfer the geometry, textures, perspective cameras, the sun, lights, and layers. The plug-in offers you the possibility to update your second Artlantis file and take over the settings from the first one in case you need to change anything in the ArchiCAD model.

The Artlantis export plug-in is installed by default in ArchiCAD.

Tutorial: Interior Cove Lighting in Artlantis

Our good friend Evan Troxel over at getmethod.com recently shared a fantastic new tutorial with us. In his latest Artlantis tutorial, he shows us how to work around the lack of a tube-type light in Artlantis by making a tube out of geometry and applying the Neon Light Shader to emit light from the object. Although he uses a SketchUp model, the set up would be the same for any modeling software you are using. You'll also learn how to make stained glass look like it's being backlit with the ambient slider in the material inspector to get the center ceiling effect seen on this image. Thanks, Evan, and keep these coming!

ArchiCAD monkey video: Exporting ArchiCAD to Artlantis

Our regular readers may recall an excellent tutorial from Apollo Spiliotis, also known as the ArchiCAD monkey, posted a few weeks ago, which showed how Artlantis works seamlessly with CAD + BIM.

We're pleased and proud to inform you that Apollo is back with a new video, Artlantis 101. In this latest tutorial, Apollo explores how to download the Artlantis 3 trial from the Artlantis site as well as from MyArchiCAD.com. Remember! If you're a student or teacher, you can apply for a FREE, one-year educational license for ArchiCAD and Artlantis from MyArchiCAD.com.

"In addition to the trial, I download the ArchiCAD to Artlantis exporter -- enabling me to save my 3D ArchiCAD model into an Artlantis one, so I can edit and render it. Next, I export the 3D building model I created in show ACM005 from ArchiCAD, import it to Artlantis, and give a quick overview of the general interface. ..."

Thank you, Apollo, and keep up the good work!

Artlantis works seamlessly with CAD + BIM software

Check out this awesome video introduction to Artlantis developed by the ArchiCAD Monkey:

"It’s not a full blown modelling + rendering program like 3DS Max or Cinema4D, but a stand-alone rendering application, as it has simple tasks and does them awesomely well! This is due to its rendering engine developed especially for architecture, offering accuracy and speed unmatched by any other product on the market.

In this introduction I go through a quick intro of Artlantis 3, the reasons why it’s sometimes more suitable for architectural visualisation, the two versions (Artlantis R + Artlantis Studio), some of the amazing features it offers - including the innovative and superfast radiosity preview, the drag+drop process of adding objects and shaders to your model, water animation + interactive cloud formations, + more."

Enjoy!
